Dance Notes

This is a dance in which 3s are active on bar 1 and so there is a problem with the transition between bar 32 of the even-numbered repeats and bar 1 of the next (odd-numbered) repeat. 1s of the active set just finished arrive in 3rd place of the full set facing in and 3s (who have to be 3rd couple of the new active set) arrive in 4th place facing out; no time is allocated to interchange them.

The following is an intuitive solution but requires 1s and 3s to dance the final half reel much more quickly, making just enough time to exchange places on the final bar.

29-32 In the 2nd, 4th and 6th repeats: 2s dance the half reel slightly more slowly than normally, finishing facing out, ready to be 2s again in the next repeat; 3s 1s dance it in 3 bars and, in the final bar, 3s cast quickly up to 3rd place of the full set, ready to flow in and up into the Inveran reels of the next repeat, WHILE 1s dance in and down to 4th place.

Note that this dance is not readily adaptable to a 3-couple set.

Dance Information

The Ramadan-ce title, is a clever word play around the two words 'Ramadan' and 'dance'. Note that this dance comes from John Drewry's Turkish Set.

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is the Islamic month of fasting, in which participating Muslims refrain from eating, drinking, smoking, and indulging in anything that is in excess or ill-natured; from dawn until dusk.
