This game focuses on the past tense with four main sections. There is a past tense vocabulary practice section and a verbs spelling section. Students will find both regular past tense verbs and irregular verbs in the activity. Then, there are some games for practicing using the past tense within conversation, via questions and answers.

The question and answer activities are associated with the ESL Curriculum for Kids - Unit 12.

Questions and Answers:

A: What did you do yesterday?

B: I cleaned my room.

A: Did he clean this morning?

B: Yes, he did./No, he didn't.

Other notes:

  • This past tense activity use a mixture of regular past tense forms and irregular past tense forms.
  • There are 5 past tense time indicators used in the grammar section of the activities. Students will practice use of "yesterday", "last night", "after school", "in the evening" and "in the afternoon" in their construction of past tense sentences.
  • The grammar games mix first, second and third person. The vocabulary sections and listening activities only use the third person.
  • The verbs in the spelling section will take the root word, infinitive, the past tense form of the verb, and the past tense verb with a direct object. As an example - do, to do, did homework, did, do homework

Vocabulary: cleaned the house, cooked dinner, did homework, drew a picture, ate dessert, went shopping, came to school, listened to music, made a snowman, played the piano, played video games, read a book, took a test, used a computer, watched TV
