Nearly ten years ago when I took the photos of the toilets in Tajikistan I just thought they were amusing and didn’t have any ideas of doing anything with them, so it didn’t occur to me to record exactly where they were. I can give you a rough idea where the worst one was, a few of the others were also in the same valley that runs South from the road East of Panjakent. My best guess is somewhere near this village at this Google maps location I hiked with some friends up the valley with seven lakes and it’s well worth visiting even without the toilets. Obviously after all this time I can’t guarantee any of them will still be there but if you have any luck in your search I’d love to hear about it. Many thanks Graham Askey ———-

本稿で取り上げたトイレのほとんどが、最も容易且つ設置に特段専門性を要することのないピットラトリン（落とし込み式トイレ）と呼ばれるタイプのものです。このタイプのトイレは、特徴として臭いやハエの発生による衛生被害の他、水源汚染のリスクを孕みます。しかし、筆者が観察した限り、タジキスタンにおいてはこれらの問題が深刻であるという兆候は確認できませんでした。
