MissAV, the World’s Largest Japanese AV Piracy Site, Releases New Domain Again

Two months ago, we reported that the two main domains of the world’s largest Japanese AV piracy site, MissAV—MissAV.com and ThisAV.com—were seized on January 13, 2025. The action was initiated by Will Co. LTD (FANZA) and assisted by the anti-piracy company Battleship Stance.

However, just one day later, the MissAV team swiftly launched a new domain ending in “.WS” With news spreading rapidly online, many users quickly became aware of the update.

Recently, our team discovered that MissAV has taken further action, once again releasing a new domain—this time ending in “.AI” Previously, since “.COM” domains fall under U.S. jurisdiction, FANZA was able to petition American courts to seize and confiscate them.

In contrast, MissAV’s latest domains, “.WS” and “.AI” are governed by different authorities—“.WS” is managed by SamoaNIC in Samoa, while “.AI” falls under the jurisdiction of Anguilla, a British Overseas Territory, and is administered by the Anguilla Domain Administration.

It seems that the MissAV team has learned from past experiences and is now deliberately avoiding domains controlled by the U.S., Europe, and other countries with strict legal enforcement.

For now, “.AI” appears to be the new primary domain, with MissAV actively promoting it on the site and encouraging users to transition. However, it remains unclear whether “.WS” will be discontinued.

However, we speculate that they will likely keep both domains active simultaneously. Otherwise, they could have simply used technical means to redirect traffic to the new domain.

If you often experience automatic pauses while using web video players—similar to what happens on MissAV—such as when switching browser tabs, moving your mouse off-screen (to a secondary or extended display), or when the video page isn’t in the foreground, you might want to try a chrome extension called NoPause Playback. It helps prevent these annoying interruptions and keeps your videos playing smoothly.
