  • Coupe-like Design: The fastback-like roofline became a signature feature of this generation, giving it a sporty and dynamic appearance.
  • Top Build Quality: The ES VII was regularly recognized as one of the most reliable and trouble-free models in its class by rating agencies such as J.D. Power.
  • A Litmus Test for the Brand: The F Sport version became available for the hybrid modification (ES 300h F Sport) for the first time after the refresh, highlighting the demand for a sporty image even among hybrid buyers.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Impeccable Build Quality: Premium materials, perfect panel gaps, and durable trim.
  • Exceptional Comfort: Spacious cabin, especially for rear passengers, and a very quiet interior.
  • Smooth Ride: Even in the F Sport version, the suspension handles imperfections excellently, providing a "rocking chair" feel on the highway.
  • Reliability and Low Running Costs: This especially applies to the hybrid ES 300h, known for its reliability and fuel efficiency (around 5-6 L/100km in mixed driving).
  • Rich Standard Equipment: Even base trims include the comprehensive Lexus Safety System+ 2.5/3.0 suite of active safety systems.

Cons:

  • Non-Sporty Character: Despite improved handling, it is still a car for calm, comfortable driving, not for aggressive driving.
  • Outdated (at launch) Multimedia: The touchpad in the first model years was inconvenient and a distracting element for the driver.
  • Polarizing Design: The very bold Spindle Grille design is not to everyone's taste.
